About PawFYIMade by pet owners who did the homework

PawFYI is an independent pet-care information site, made by a small team of pet owners who wanted straight answers for our own pets. We cover pet insurance, food and care, and we show our work: the policy line, the label number or the vet source behind our answers.

It started with a search

Why does PawFYI exist?

Because answers to everyday pet questions were buried under sales pitches and fine print.

One search for “does pet insurance cover dental” returns ten tabs, three sales pitches and two answers that disagree. You close the laptop knowing less than when you opened it.

Most pet advice online is written to sell you something or to rank for a keyword. Neither one is the same as answering your question.

Who makes PawFYI?

A small team of pet owners who wanted to understand insurance, food and care for our own pets, and figured you might too.

PawFYI (also written Paw FYI) is an independent information site. We’re not a pet food or supplement brand: we don’t make or sell food, treats or supplements, and we don’t sell insurance.

For us, doing the homework means reading the boring documents: policy wordings, insurer FAQs, the Merck Veterinary Manual, food labels down to the moisture line. Then we write down what they say in plain English, with our sources and the date we checked them close by.

Does PawFYI sell pet insurance?

No. PawFYI isn’t an insurance agency and doesn’t sell insurance. We explain how plans work so you can compare them yourself.

We show how plans differ on the things that decide a claim: deductibles, waiting periods, limits and who pays the vet. Where it helps, we run the math on a real-size bill.

When we group companies into “best for” lists, we explain how each list was built, and paid placements are labeled. The decision stays yours.

How does PawFYI compare pet food?

With the Food Finder, which lines up to 3 cat or dog foods side by side on a dry-matter basis, so wet and dry foods compare fairly.

Numbers are tagged by where they came from: the label’s guarantee, the maker’s own typical analysis, or a PawFYI estimate marked with “~”. Ingredients come with plain-English tips and their sources.

If a maker doesn’t publish a number, we mark it “Not published” rather than guess.

How can I check if my pet’s food was recalled?

Use the Pet Food Recall Tracker. It lists cat and dog food recalls, each linked to the FDA’s official notice.

Filter by cat food, dog food or brand, and see when the list last checked for new notices. Brand pages link straight to that brand’s recall history.

Where does PawFYI’s health information come from?

From veterinary sources: the Merck Veterinary Manual, Cornell’s Feline Health Center, the ASPCA and similar references.

Health guides point out when to call your vet. We explain; we don’t diagnose or recommend doses.
